Why Milton

Why Retire in Milton?

Milton is a wonderful community in the Heart of Ontario’s Escarpment Country that has grown from a small town on the outskirts, to a thriving city with much to offer both it’s residents and visitors alike.

In just the last ten years, Milton’s population has risen from 33,000 to 80,000. And while its proximity to major urban centers is largely accountable for it’s tremendous growth, its Milton’s agricultural heritage, and pleasing mix of leisure pursuits that make it a destination in its own right.

The Land

Blessed with an abundance of rich farmland, Milton enjoys a long and bountiful growing season beginning in Spring, and lasting right through the Fall. For several months, a varied harvest including asparagus, corn, tomatoes, rhubarb, strawberries and apples are grown locally, right here in Milton.

Milton and it’s fertile farmlands are part of the 1.8 million acres of land found within Ontario’s Greenbelt. As Milton continues to experience phenomenal growth as a city, it is mandated to respect the Greenbelt’s carefully preserved green space, farmlands, forests, wetlands and watersheds.

The Life

Milton offers a variety of outings and events to take part in year-round. The Halton Region Museum, Country Heritage Park, and the Milton Fairgrounds- host of the famous Steam Era Festival- are just a few.

Downtown Milton is home to the Main Street Tractor Parade, and the Farmer’s Market, open Saturdays from 7AM- 12PM, beginning Victoria Day weekend, right through Thanksgiving Weekend.

In addition to the conveniences you’d expect in a city, including pharmacies, major banks, restaurants, parks, and the bustling Milton Mall, local shop owners showcase arts & crafts, souvenirs, clothing and more. The neighbouring community of Campbellville offers a quaint shopping experience, with a visit to a unique stained glass retailer on it’s must-see list.

Then, just a short drive away is Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area. Always popular for a hike or a picnic.
